Initial general public comment period
2:18Philip Latassapublic commentBut one threat that we can and must prevent is optional conversion of our protected streamside floodplain habitats to asphalt pavement. We asked the City Council to agree that wisdom tells us we must suspend the George Schneider Trail, the Pickett Road Connector Trail, and all similar projects that would needlessly diminish our last remaining natural habitats. We would also call the Council's attention to the case of 10-270 Fairfax Boulevard, known as the Willow Woods Open Space, forming a link in the chain of protected habitat areas running along Accutank Creek from Chain Bridge Road to Face Park. This parcel was offered for sale at auction in December, but the sale did not go through. We urge the council to take steps to protect this parcel from future private sale and development pressure.
