Work Session – Five-Year Review of the City of Fairfax 2035 Comprehensive Plan

29:14

FeatherIt's a recommendation. That's what I always say about the comp plan. It's not a contract. It's a concept, right? But because of the history, and Mr. Ross referred to the Fairfax Boulevard Master Plan as a key guiding principle that is part of our history, it's carried a lot of weight. And in conjunction with conversations with the Economic Development Office, we're trying to strike a balance. Nothing would prevent somebody from putting in an application, if I'm not mistaken. But we believe the priorities should be elsewhere right now.

Paul Naptystaffcomprehensive plan. The map on the right is the proposed for the proposed new comprehensive plan. You can see the green line disappears. That was the areas previously identified as boulevards. Most of those are now shown as commercial mains. A couple of them has changed to avenues, which are a little bit narrower roads, such as Blenheim Boulevard and Germantown Road. Other changes include changing where neighborhood circulators are to match the neighborways from the bicycle master plan. Neighborhood circulators are identified for the major more major roads that are within neighborhoods and for these streets elements such as traffic calming and bicycle amenities are proposed and then a few additional changes are

project is a safe streets for all also called the pedestrian master plan this will be a our next effort to look citywide at improvements and coming out of that project we expect to see some other larger projects identified and so with future updates to the comprehensive plan we'll see some new larger scale projects in here moving on to the environment sustainability chapter there are proposed changes to this action this is results from feedback that we received from the public meeting in June talking about new standards that are needed for tree maintenance and care this also points to the newly developed tree preservation and landscaping guide that I previously mentioned this is a resource that is now used for any city project or any new development project

and then lastly in our community services chapter the only major change that we want to point out and the parks and recreation section we added a reference to the parks and recreation strategic master plan this did not we did previously did not have a reference to this in the previous comprehensive plan and as you know the parks and recreation Department is just beginning the process of updating this. And so we removed our reference to the 2014 Department of Recreation Strategic Master Plan because many of the recommendations in there have been superseded by other policies. But we added this action to reference the Strategic Master Plan in general because the upcoming revision will give us a lot more identification of guidance.
