4:04Mary Ageepublic commentGood evening. I'm Mary Agee, a resident of the city. I live at 104-63 Courtney Drive. I should have started. Good evening, Mayor Reed and members of the city council. I'm here tonight to urge your support of the Willard Sherwood Community Center. There are just so many reasons for bringing this project to fruition. It keeps the county health services right in the heart of the city. It increases preschool and child care capacity, provides significant enhancement to attract future residents here. It provides, finally, adequate parking for all of the green acres, especially the seniors. If you've ever been there when there's been a big event, you have to get there very early to get access. So I ask you, and I will say, as a taxpayer, I would gladly accept higher taxes to support this project
Art Hammerschlagpublic commentGood evening. I'm Art Hammerschlag, resident at 3843 Far Oak Circle. I'm speaking tonight in strong support of the Willard Sherwood Center. I will be brief. all the good reasons you have already heard. I just hope you were listening when the people gave you those good reasons. You've heard them already and more than once. The bottom line that I think people are saying is we want this facility. Yes, there are expenses associated with it. We think the benefits far outweigh the costs. We are willing to pay those costs. bottom line we want a modern functional senior center we don't want to look at a boarded up building on the corner of blenheim boulevard and layton hall for the next 10 years that's a blight
Robert Beattypublic commentMadam Mayor, members of the council, my name is Robert Beatty. My address is 10543 Warwick Circle, and I also am speaking on behalf of the Willard Sherwood Center. I've heard tonight and over previous meetings many, many reasons for going forward with the center. among them. It is an we have agreed with this with the county for a joint construction here for starting 10 years ago was the first agreement I believe 2016 or 2017. It's been going ever since then and the thing that I would like to stress now is the concept that people might be saying that this is too expensive, we can't afford it. My opinion, we can't afford not to. To start with, the existing site, Green Acres, is not, let's just say, not acceptable.
