Consideration of the May 5, 2026 Special Meeting Minutes
8:31ShinaberryclerkOur first item is a Wilcoxon Trail Extension Connectivity Study Briefing. I'm going to recognize Wendy Sanford, our Transportation Director, for the staff presentation. Thank
Wendy Sanfordstaffyou. Good evening, Mayor, members of City Council. I'd first like to introduce who's up here with me. We have Chloe Ritter, our Multimodal Transportation Planner, and David Summers, our Public Works Director. and we are here to discuss the Wilcoxon Trail Extension, formerly known as George Snyder Trail Extension, not to be confused with the George Snyder Trail. And I will give some project context and then proceed to discuss that, to discuss the project. So we are discussing a planned and funded trail that received smart scale funding back in FY26. The city received $9.5 million. And the image on the screen shows the location of the trail that was funded and planned back in 26. And it shows that it goes along Fairfax Boulevard between the Wilcoxon trailhead on Fairfax Boulevard
That was going to be its eastern terminus. So what is being proposed is to eliminate that portion that I just spoke of right here, where that red dotted line is shown, to eliminate that portion, and to instead utilize Draper Drive and Beach Drive, and consider a new name for this project. the George Snyder Trail extension, the Wilcoxon Trail extension. So again we would utilize that south, the southern part, that southern leg would not change, just that northern leg would rotate up to utilize Draper Drive. This project adheres to the spirit of the original project, makes a connection to on-street paths rather than to the off-street trail. So this drawing is overlaid on an And again, shows that alignment that I just mentioned, utilizing Draper Drive to connect to Beach Drive and to Draper Drive Park and to the trail network that extends from that park.
