Summary

The City of Fairfax 2035 Comprehensive Plan Five Year Review is a statutorily required periodic review (per Code of Virginia Section 15.2-2230) of the City's long-range comprehensive plan. Staff prepared a draft updated plan, and the Planning Commission held a continued work session discussion on September 9, 2024, during which no action was taken and a public hearing was tentatively scheduled for September 23, 2024. At the September 23, 2024 meeting, the Planning Commission held the public hearing and unanimously adopted Resolution PC-24-03 (7-0), approving amendments to the 2035 Comprehensive Plan as set forth in the September 18, 2024 draft — subject to modifications for incorporating City Council feedback, clarifying and confirming updated map graphics, and related inline text edits — and recommending that City Council approve and adopt the plan. The matter was then advanced to a City Council public hearing scheduled for October 8, 2024.
