In November 2025, City Council received a presentation on the CUE Zero Fare Evaluation at a work session, prompting discussion but no formal vote. To sustain the zero-fare program beyond FY26, the City pursued a second grant from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation's (DRPT) Transit Ridership Incentive Program (TRIP). At a Special Meeting and Work Session on February 17, 2026, Council unanimously approved (6-0) a resolution endorsing the City's application for that second TRIP grant, which would take effect in FY27.
The outcome of that grant application — and the long-term future of the zero-fare policy — remains to be determined.
