National Library Week

Summary

National Library Week is an annual celebration recognized by the City of Fairfax through a mayoral proclamation. In 2025, Mayor Catherine S. Reed proclaimed April 6–12, 2025 as National Library Week under the theme "Drawn to the Library," presenting the proclamation at the April 8, 2025 City Council meeting to Library Board of Trustee Vice Chair Suzanne Levy and Library Director Eric Carzon. In 2026, Mayor Reed again presented the proclamation at the April 14, 2026 City Council meeting, acknowledging April 19–25, 2026 as National Library Week under the theme "Find Your Joy"; recipients included Suzanne Levy (Library Board of Trustee Vice Chair), Alana Quarles (Fairfax City Branch Manager), and Eric Carzon (Library Director). Both proclamations emphasized libraries' roles in fostering learning, intellectual freedom, community connection, and free expression. The 2026 proclamation additionally highlighted library support for job seekers, entrepreneurs, and partnerships with schools and businesses.
