Village Expo
The Village Expo (held April 10, 2026, at Sherwood Community Center) was identified by the HHCAB Home Sharing Strategy Team as a strategic starting point for community engagement on home sharing.
The City of Fairfax 2035 Comprehensive Plan is the city's primary long-range land use and policy document, guiding development, housing, transportation, and related decisions. A five-year review process culminated on October 8, 2024, when City Council unanimously adopted Resolution R-24-30 approving the updated plan dated September 27, 2024.

In full
Planning began at the February 26, 2026 committee meeting, where the team reached consensus on a small-scale, information-sharing approach centered on a table at the Expo, an interest survey, and contact collection. By the March 11, 2026 meeting, key logistics were confirmed: the Fairfax City Village Coordinator approved a home sharing table, the City Attorney raised no concerns about distributing Fairfax County materials (Consumer's Guide and Flyer), and HHCAB leadership was notified — though no formal decisions were made at that meeting due to lack of quorum. On April 6, 2026, the full HHCAB voted unanimously to approve the information sharing/gathering approach of attending various Village in the City events.
The Expo took place as planned on April 10, 2026, with the Housing Program Manager in attendance; 47 survey responses were collected. Results presented at the May 13, 2026 committee meeting showed 51% expressed some openness to home sharing, 23% were already home sharing, 28% had never considered it, and 21% said it was not for them. The team noted awareness as a significant barrier and flagged the small sample size as a limitation.
