Public Hearing on the City of Fairfax 2025 Legislative Program
38:50Melanie Zippstaffour legislative program there is no council action tonight that will be on december 10th just to go over really quickly our city of fairfax delegation is senator saline and delegate full of up they will both be with us on december 3rd to go over our final proposed program in a workstation. So very quickly, how we build our program. Tonight we are going to review some of the edits that have been made to the program, some additions that staff is requesting be added to our program. Then on December 3rd, we would like to bring forward the priority focus areas, which is the center page. Those would be any kind of policies. Oh, I'm sorry. I thought I sounded funny. I apologize. I'm not starting over, though.
schools and anything else that we contract with Fairfax County to provide those services for us as well as Alexandria Arlington Falls Church Loudoun County and Prince William County and then all the associations that our staff belong to we also incorporate their legislative programs as well this year we have one addition which is the village collective and we have a new that we would hope the council would be favorable of, and we will get to that shortly. So of the requests that we had previously, these are the additions that we included in the program. I won't go through this list because I will go through it in later slides, but these are the items that staff has requested or council members have requested.
we need to get those in by november 25 at this time i don't have any that we want to push forward and so our next meeting will be on december 3rd with our delegation in the work session and we will go over the final proposed legislative program. And then on December 10th, I'll be asking for council's consideration of our 2025 legislative program. And then the program begins on January 8th. So next steps tonight, we're just asking for council consensus on the new policy statements and on the language revisions in the existing policy statements. And then on December 3rd, I'll be asking for your consensus and prioritization of the focus areas. And that is it. I will happily take any questions.
Resolution Requesting Issuance of Revenue Bonds by the City of Fairfax Economic Development Authority – Up to $54,500,000
1:05:10Thomas Rossvery fortunate to benefit from that and want to recognize all those who are veterans. Secondly, following up the presentation we heard on the importance of village and the city and the services they provide, there was a wonderful article in the paper today, the Washington Post, about our growing aging population and many people who are aging in place but are in need And it's a really heartwarming story about how neighbors and people have reached out, just going to do a few errands with someone or helping them out or reaching out to them and being a friend and a neighbor. And again, I think that's the premise of this village and the city. And I certainly will be very supportive of that as being a priority in our legislative program as we go forward in 2025.
