Catherine Readwith the George Snyder Trail. was creating an ADA accessible way for people to get through the city. So I do think we always have to keep that uppermost when we talk about wanting to be greener and be environmentally sensitive. We are still trying to create a walkable city for people to safely, of all ages and mobility issues, to be able to get through the city. And sometimes that's going to mean people having to share space with bicycles, right? just all considerations and I and in councilmember Hardy Chandler pointed out that we need to use all the boards and commissions and that includes village in the city because village in the city also represents older people who want to stay and age in place here so it's easy to see the kids with small with small

Thomas Petersonwhen we've got a lot of cars and a lot of people in the same place, and particularly when the cars are going fast. So these physical barriers are being used increasingly. They're used quite a bit in Baltimore. Brooklyn has said that they want to be the world leader in this. We see Portland, Seattle, et cetera, and they're all over the place in Europe. We were looking at that very option on Fairfax Boulevard during the course of the George Snyder Trail conversations and the potential for adding a physical barrier there as a part of a sidewalk widening project. I think there was some skepticism at the time, but it is, in fact, the case that an almost identical project is moving forward through this process, the six-year project in Arlington.
