Introduction of an ordinance amending Chapter 54 (Offenses and Miscellaneous Provisions), Article I (General), Section 54-4 – firearms prohibition
9:20Wendy Sanfordstaffi will show how this segment of trail fits into the larger network the concern and the reason for this project was that the sidewalk that exists on on picket was very narrow but furthermore that there was one missing link in an off-road network that already existed. And so what's shown on this slide right now is the network of off-road trails and where the Pickett Trail exists within that network. So what you see here are all the yellow lines, the George Snyder Trail, the I-66 Trail, the Connector Trail, and then the Cross County Trail. and there was a missing link between the cross county trail and the connector trail so in this area where you see this red line and so that is the genesis of
when this project was initiated it was managed from the Parks Department and our former Parks Director Kathy Salgado led the outreach for this project so she's no longer with the city and so I do have some of her files but I cannot speak specifically to what what specific outreach he did I know that there was a public hearing held there was not a committee like for the George Snyder trail for this project and there are not as many adjacent neighbors so I don't know if the outreach was as extensive but again I was not managing the project at that time so I cannot speak directly to that

And it's interesting because it was brought forward by a resident who spent two and a half years telling us that we shouldn't pay any attention to the votes and the input over the last 10 years on the George Snyder Trail. While it's interesting that we did in fact have a vote on four-year terms over a decade ago, the fact of the matter is the 15,000 voters who live in Fairfax City in 2025 this is not necessarily impactful i will again point out that a super majority of cities in the commonwealth of virginia that's 35 out of 38 have staggered four-year terms so do many towns
