Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been recognized at two separate municipal bodies in Fairfax.

On October 7, 2024, School Board member Mrs. McQuillen verbally acknowledged October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month during the Board Matters portion of a regular School Board meeting. More formally, at the September 30, 2025 City Council meeting, Mayor Catherine S.

Reed presented an official proclamation designating October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Fairfax. The proclamation was presented to the city's Commission for Women and to Sophia Nicholas of INOVA. The proclamation text highlighted the importance of self-exams, regular screenings and mammograms, equitable access to affordable care, and the role of a supportive network of survivors, caregivers, advocates, and health care providers.

At the 2025 presentation, a representative (introduced as Janelle) offered remarks on behalf of the organization and gifted Mayor Reed and the City Council pink yard signs to encourage community participation in Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities.
