Two parallel improvement efforts are underway. First, playground equipment replacement: as of October 2025, it was determined that some existing equipment needed replacement and that new equipment targeting middle school-age users would be added alongside replacement elementary-age equipment, given the park's proximity to the middle school; as of January 2026, new playground equipment was expected to arrive within a month. Second, a vernal pool expansion: in December 2025, Susan Kuiler reported that Friends of Accotink Creek were proposing to expand the vernal pool at the park; by March 2026, that effort had moved into planning; and by June 2026, Friends of Accotink Creek was reported to be proceeding with the vernal pool project plan.
