LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
Each June, the City of Fairfax formally recognizes LGBTQIA+ Pride Month through a mayoral proclamation presented at a City Council meeting.
On May 27, 2025, Mayor Read presented the proclamation to the Pride Festival Committee and the Metropolitan Community Church. The following year, on May 26, 2026, the Mayor again presented the proclamation — this time to Reverend Emma Chattin of Metropolitan Community Church of Northern Virginia — ahead of the start of Pride Month. The practice appears to be an established annual ceremonial tradition on the Council's agenda.
