Two-Year Transportation Program
A maintained knowledge base built from council and commission meetings — updated as new meetings land. Last synced Aug 4, 2026.
Overview
through Feb 18, 2025The Two-Year Transportation Program is a City of Fairfax planning and funding mechanism that identifies and prioritizes transportation projects for advancement through feasibility study, design, and construction. The current cycle (FY25-26) was introduced at the October 8, 2024 City Council meeting, reviewed during a work session on February 18, 2025, and formally adopted by City Council on February 25, 2025. The adopted FY25-26 program includes five projects: an evaluation of Fairfax Circle, bike route wayfinding, improvements at the intersection of Main Street and Lindhurst Drive, improvements on the north side of the Vienna Metro Station, and a sidewalk feasibility study at Rust Road and Westmore Drive. The program serves as a critical stepping stone between long-range planning documents (such as small area plans and the bicycle master plan) and the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), with several projects now progressing into design and construction phases — including the Government Center Parkway connection (underway as of July 2025 and expected complete by early 2026) and the Camp Washington multimodal connectivity project (in design public hearing as of January 2026). A project first included in the FY22 program — related to multimodal connectivity along Fairfax Boulevard (George Snyder trail area) — received FY26 funding but has had no work completed as of May 2026 and is under consideration for a scope modification.
