Consent Agenda – February 2026 Meeting Minutes (Items 6a–6f)

Catherine Readof very temporary, very brief parking spaces. And the other thing we keep talking about, you know, the rate, you know, it specifically said Greenway, and we have a Greenway in the small area plan, and the Davies property allowed for that in their design. And the pre-application we got for Christopher Companies also were like,

Thomas Petersonactivity corridors like the corridor between there and George Mason University, which is logical and recommended in many ways. I think the decision we made on the Davies property is inconsistent with that, but nonetheless, that is very much a development strategy that is probably worth taking a second look at and seeing where that leaves us. Again, that would influence what we want to do here in terms of zoning, and I think it's important that we be careful not to take actions now that would foreclose that kind of updated thinking that we would have in the future. And I think that is really consistent with the interest and concerns that we hear from so many people in the community. And you mentioned the results of the meeting that was held and some of the inputs around that.

Billy Batesso I'd rather not turn this into re-litigating who voted which way on previous proposals since that's not why we're here but looking in general at this I think sort of points to how density within itself is inherently somewhat arbitrary looking at for example the Davies property that is a project that utilized below-grade parking, which is something that, as was mentioned, we want to incentivize, not discourage. And, you know, with that comes the potential for additional density, because that room isn't being taken up by a parking garage. The point now, it's called, is a project that had above-grade parking. It is wrapped, I believe, so you don't really see it, but it is above grade parking, so that's one thing that takes up a lot of room there.
