Amy Lynne DennystaffHello, Mayor and Council. So, yes, tonight you'll be hearing about redevelopment in North Facts and for Courthouse Plaza. This is a group of students who are doing this completely voluntarily. Over the years, we've done this. We had a group of students with Miss Alum back in 2021, 2022, when Camp Washington Small Area Plan was being developed. when the Fairfax Circle small area plan was being developed. Now we have all the small area plans, but we still wanted to do a redevelopment project. And so the students were doing a similar thing for Northfax and then also to have a site-specific example. We did Courthouse Plaza before the applicant had submitted a proposal that started last fall. And the students were challenged to envision redevelopment
Daniel Alexanderstaffand that will be coming to us next week. Looking a little bit ahead, we have the CEO of NVTA coming in to talk about their rapid transit action plan. as a presentation on the 23rd we have some changes that we will need to make i believe but by virtue of commonwealth changes on our purchasing items and the resolution associated with that we'll have a resolution to sign a standard project agreement with nvta for blenheim and the improvements there. We'll have the public hearing scheduled for green building, and then we'll have some code changes that we will need to make based on, again, action out of Richmond on Chapter 86 that's scheduled, and compensation is here again. On the work session, we will talk about potential reviews and updates to small area plans.
Thomas PetersonCouncil Member Peterson. Item number three, potential small area plan zoning ordinance amendments. How does that relate to the June 23rd discussion which is also discussing amendments to some of the small area plans?
Daniel AlexanderstaffI think that the work session that you cited on the small area plans on the 23rd is different from this. So what this is designed to do, and I think I finally got it, but Brooke is going to explain it if not. We've developed our small area plans and we're in a process now of developing text amendments that are associated with those small area plans from a sequencing standpoint. At the same time, on the 23rd, we're going to introduce to you is also this idea of how we're going to study those small area plans as we move forward. standpoint we've developed our smaller area plans and now we're developing the amendments that go along with those plans at on the 23rd we're going to talk generally be it generally as a process and
as we're looking down the line at how we're looking at those small area plans is there anything that you want to add to that that would make more sense that
BrookestaffOn the on the 23rd is an initial discussion to talk about potential amendments or examination of the small area plans. potential amendments to the small area plans moving forward what would be what would be reviewed what wouldn't be reviewed direction that council may have on that the discussion on the 14th is the implementation step for the the small area plans as they exist now and this would amend potentially amend the zoning ordinance regulations as an implementation step of those plans.
Billy BatesSo I think that what you're getting at, if I understand it, is first, we have small area plans as they are now. and that's the current guidance that is informing the process of the developing the small area plan zoning ordinance amendments and then this discussion on the reviews and updates of the small area plans is more about establishing a process for what we might want to see reviewed and potentially updated in the future on a regular recurring basis similar to what the comprehensive plan goes through?
