Update and Discussion on Move Fairfax City (Safety Action Plan, Pedestrian Plan, and Old Town Circulation Study)
1:07Catherine ReadWell, that is a great perspective. I think when you were talking about the block ripe for redevelopment, looking at that greenway that's on the map as a concept and the fact that some of the projects that we have seen brought before us, even in a preliminary format, have acknowledged that developers understand that the city has said, this is another way we want to have pedestrian access from downtown all the way over to the university, to city hall here. And it's good to see the developers acknowledging that the city has a plan. I think small area plans have really been beneficial in that regard for giving people a concept. And it is a concept, not a blueprint. keep hearing that. But you have to start somewhere. And I do think that's significant
that our small area plans are giving people direction. And that is something else. The comprehensive plan, the small area plans, and the studies and the data that support that these are good decisions. It's all very important. I mean, I'm very proud of the fact that the city approaches things this way. Did you have something to add, Council Member Peterson?
Mr. Cunninghammy thoughts are that as it's just been said that the small area plans are concept plans and the one for downtown is a concept which we're trying to implement and it's a vision that has to be shared from one council to the next over time if it's going to be implemented it's not it's not a plan that was laid out to be accomplished in two years or three years because there are too many moving parts. With that, updating a small area plan at some point as we get a clearer vision so that we can tie it into individual budget items, things that you can plan for, put on a piece of paper and bring through and do it in such a way that as councils change, as you said, one council says yay, the next council says nay.
