On the transportation side, city staff have discussed and ultimately ruled out a road diet on Eaton Place, and the intersection design at Eaton Place has changed from earlier concepts in the Northfax small area plan, prompting ongoing re-evaluation of lane configurations and what improvements are feasible there. A shared-use path on the south side of Eaton Place between University Drive Extension and Chain Bridge Road has been identified as a desirable connection that staff are actively exploring, potentially in partnership with developers. On the land-use side, a pre-application briefing was held at the June 22, 2026 Planning Commission meeting for a proposed redevelopment at 3541 Chain Bridge Road — located at the southeast corner of Chain Bridge Road and Eaton Place — involving 29 townhouses, 8 two-over-two units, 2,750 sq ft of retail on University Drive, a 4,200 sq ft linear park, open space, an interparcel connection to the south, and sidewalk widening along Eaton Place (to 10 feet) and University Drive.
