In full
The project has been in development for at least 10 years. As of October 2024, staff was working with Timmons on preliminary plans and a more detailed budget for both turf options. The project was then placed on hold in November 2024 pending the start of Thaiss Park construction, and again in January 2025 pending action by the new City Council.
By December 2024, a 30% design proposal for pricing was being reviewed by the City's engineer. As of February 2025, $4 million is allocated and a Timmons proposal covering both synthetic and natural turf options is in hand, but a decision on one option is needed to avoid additional planning costs. The full Timmons plan, presented at the May 2025 joint PRAB/School Board meeting, is estimated at approximately $10 million and includes two turf fields, a track, and a paved area; $6 million in funding is currently identified ($4M existing + $2M ARPA), leaving a $4–8 million gap.
PRAB has asked the School Board to join the effort as a joint project given the fields are shared space, with an estimated 16–18 months to complete (less if synthetic turf is selected).
