RFP Process
The RFP (Request for Proposal) process under primary tracking here concerns the competitive procurement of elementary school renovation design firms by the City of Fairfax Schools.
The City of Fairfax 2035 Comprehensive Plan is the city's primary long-range land use and policy document, guiding development, housing, transportation, and related decisions. A five-year review process culminated on October 8, 2024, when City Council unanimously adopted Resolution R-24-30 approving the updated plan dated September 27, 2024.

An overview of the RFP process was presented to the School Board on June 3, 2025, by Superintendent Jeff Platenberg and Patti Innocenti, Director of City of Fairfax Procurement Services. As of June 12, 2025, the School Board was still in the RFP process for elementary school renovation design proposals. The process involved an evaluation committee conducting multiple scoring sessions and at least one round of interviews with proposing firms.
By February 9, 2026, contracts had been awarded: Mostly Architects received a design contract for Daniels Run Elementary, and Architecture Inc. received a contract for Providence Elementary — both through the competitively procured RFP process. As of May 18, 2026, schematic design work was underway and ongoing through the summer, with the superintendent providing the board a further update on the RFP process at that meeting.
Separately, the HHCAB identified developing an RFP process for distributing Housing Trust Fund money as a priority next step at its February 2, 2026 meeting, which is a distinct parallel use of an RFP process in a different municipal context.
