CIP Update

in progress

The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) is an ongoing multi-year budget process tracking planned investments across school, parks, and municipal facilities. On October 20, 2025, Acting Superintendent Dan Phillips presented an updated CIP budget to the School Board during a work session, incorporating added HVAC funding and revised cost estimates for the football turf field replacement and softball field; that updated CIP was slated to be formally brought to the next regular school board meeting.

The Fairfax Circle Small Area Plan is one of four Activity Center Small Area Plans adopted by the City of Fairfax. Plan development began in Spring 2023.

In full

Key addresses along the boulevard include 3740 Blenheim Blvd (Stacy Sherwood Center), 3730 Blenheim Blvd (City of Fairfax Police Headquarters), and 3315 Blenheim Blvd (site of a School Board retreat). The corridor has been touched by several distinct projects: (1) the Willard Sherwood Health & Community Center (WSHCC), whose Blenheim Blvd-facing side received an ADA-compliant ramp addition following PRAB's suggestion (noted November 2024); (2) a Blenheim Blvd Bridge capacity constraint identified in June 2025 as a factor in floodplain conditions for adjacent properties; (3) a CIP submission for Blenheim Blvd Tunnel Lights (lighting to be installed in a tunnel), submitted in February 2026; and (4) a Blenheim Boulevard Multimodal Improvement Plan, presented to the School Board in September 2026 and covering the stretch in front of Fairfax High School, including a proposed amphitheater on school grounds. The multimodal plan is the most active and unresolved thread as of the latest material, with a School Board recommendation to City Council pending.
